What are the best aspects of the program you would like to preserve?

It could be a rotation, philosophy or anything else you would like to say.

Background- Proposed ACGME Rules

Maximum: 80 hrs/wk averaged over 4 wks

PGY1 residents duty assignments cannot exceed 16 hrs

PGY2 and above: duty assignments no longer than 24 hrs plus 4 hrs of transfer of patients; must have 14 hr off after a 24 hr shift; no clinic after 24 hr shift

Strategic napping encouraged

Minimum of 8, ideally 10 hr off between all other shifts shorter than 24h

Night “float” – no more than 6 consecutive nights

In-house call – no more than every 3^rd night (no averaging)

At home call –

Not subject to every 3^rd night rule

Time in hospital counts toward 80 hrs

Being called in doesn’t initiate new “off-duty period”
